Rolling Mill

The rolling mill is a hydraulic press, powered by water falling and turning an external wheel outside the building. It made it possible to obtain sheets of metal of uniform thickness, which allowed the coin-smiths at the Casa de Moneda to create perfectly circular coins, of equal weight, shape and dimensions.

Francis Turbine

This original hydraulic turbine is located in the channels courtyard of the Real Casa de Moneda. It is a Francis turbine, which pioneered the use of clean hydraulic energy at the time. It was used for the processing of flour when the property was temporarily converted into a flour mill. It was installed in 1951 and ceased operations in 1967.

Wooden Lathe

Located in the Machine Room inside the museum, this wood lathe is hydraulically powered by a wheel outside the building. It was used as a part of the coin minting process in Spain in the 17th Century. The function of the lathe was to give the finishing touch to the coins that were produced by the coin-smiths.
